| Lounge hound: Makani ('mah kah nee', meaning 'the wind' in Hawaiian Sex: Male Age (approx): 19 mths Breed: Greyhound Size: Large (28 kg) Description: Makani is a stunning red fawn greyhound with a lovely, gentle nature. He loves cuddles and company, but is not demanding of attention. Makani is happy to spend a lot of the day snoozing or pottering around, followed by a short burst of 'play time' with his toys. Having completely recovered from his tail amputation (following injury) Makani has gone to live with his new mum, where he is settling in very well with cuddles and a huge bone or two! Listed: 15 October 2004 Rehomed: 18 December 2004 | Tiny Dancer: Bennie. Sex: Male Age (approx): 2 years Breed: Australian Silky Terrier Cross Size: Small Description:Bennie loves to 'trip the light fantastic' and will initiate the first moves. Bennie comes with no baggage as he is such a sweetheart and gets on with all my pooches, boys and girls. Bennie is an affectionate boy and likes nothing better than to snuggle up in to a little ball and be close to you. He is good on a lead, loves his walks, is great in the car - he just goes to sleep. Bennie would be best suited with an older retired person/s where he can be the centre of attention and have his owners all to himself. Having said that he would also be fine with older children and another dog, preferably female, as he likes to play as well. Although Bennie is only approx 2 years old he is well past the silly puppy stage and is quite content to do what everyone else wants to do. Bennie loves a bath and just sits there while he gets pampered. Don't be put off by Bennie's long coat, it is very soft, and he only needs to be brushed for about 2 minutes once a week. Bennie is also perfectly happy to sit and smell the Roses - well, the Azaleas, and will follow his fostermum around the garden.Bennie is a very lucky boy as he has been adopted by the most loving, caring family and his life from now on will be filled with everything a dog could ask for, and more. | Intelligent and beautiful:Sian Sex: Female Age: 8 months Breed: German Shepherd Size: Large Description: What a stunning dog Sian is! She has an exotically beautiful face with big fluffy ears and you only have to look into her eyes to know she is intensely intelligent as well. Sian hasn't had much love or care in her life before coming into foster care, but she is naturally obedient, which will help her to mature into the most wonderful companion, given the right environment. She is very responsive to reward based training methods, and she is attracted to, and keen to please humans. In the home Sian is calm and sensible and has an amazing capacity for learning new things. She walks beautifully on the lead, travels well in the car and is friendly to cats. Sian is a gentle and quiet dog generally and would be suitable for a family with or without children - though small children would need to be kept out of the path of her "Good morning!" and "Welcome home!" dances of joy. She would be best adopted by someone who is prepared to take the time while Sian is still young, to obedience train her and give her lots of exercise and attention and generally treat her as a member of the family. Sian is extremely devoted and loyal and would like to be allowed to be near her loved ones as much as possible. Sian has been adopted as a companion and playmate for another lonely German Shepherd. Listed: 5 November 2004 Rehomed: 12 November 2004 | Playful and friendly: Sassy Sex: Female Age (approx): 5 months-old Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier cross Size: Medium Description: Dear little Sassy loves everyone and assumes everyone loves her right back. She's innocent and beguiling and she just wants to be everyone's friend. Sassy is gangly with lots of puppy energy but she is also very good about spending quiet time on her bed. Typical of her breed, she is very people oriented and affectionate. While American staffys were developed from fighting dogs, Sassy's temperament seems to be down the other end of the spectrum - she is friendly to all dogs and is completely disinterested in fighting - play is much more her thing. With plenty of appropriate socialisation, as well as gentle, kind handling as she matures, she should remain that way. Sassy travels well in a car and though she hasn't had much training, she tries hard to do the right thing. She adores dogs and has a high play drive. She will need plenty of outlets for her energy, such as a doggy playmate or lots of exercise and toys. Obedience training will be a good idea too. She would be suitable for a family with children old enough to handle her exuberance. Sassy is a darling girl who will make an entertaining and loveable family addition. | Lots of personality: Jack Sex: Male Age (approx): 5 years Breed: Maltese X Jack Russell Size: Small Description: Jack is an active little fellow who is equally happy sitting on someone's lap as playing rough and tumble in the backyard with our big dogs. A right cutie, Jack doesn't seem to have had a lot of human contact, or love, in the past and is flourishing in an environment where he gets regular cuddles and the chance to learn some basic obedience. Jack is housetrained and likes being indoors. He made himself at home at our place very quickly - including taking pride of place on the lounge each night. Despite being a fairly independent little guy, Jack loves to have someone to follow around. He has shown himself to be quite gutsy when playing with big dogs, and is always determined to be in on any game that's going. Jack gives the impression that he would cope fine with being a sole dog in a household, though it would be important to ensure that he is in a secure yard as he could be a bit of a wanderer if left alone for extended periods. While from a personality point-of-view Jack is a very low-maintenance dog, his long locks require a minimum of weekly brushing to ensure he doesn't end up a tangled mess. Listed: 27 September 2004 Rehomed: 15 November 2004 | Gentle and sensible: Sasha Sex: Female Age (approx): 2 years Breed: German Shepherd cross Size: Large Description: Lovely Sasha is intelligent and friendly, and has an absolutely beautiful temperament. Sasha's always happy to lie around the house or just follow you around and she's affectionate and attentive, without being too demanding. She is placid and tolerant with small children, friendly to cats, ignores chooks and gets on well with every dog she meets, from little and yappy to big and boisterous. He attempts to befriend every person and dog he meets and is also very human-oriented. Arry has all the good Shepherd qualities of loyalty, confidence, intelligence and real character. Arry is a happy go lucky fellow who takes everything in his stride. He is a confident and sociable pup which is a good indicator for his adult temperament. He's also a bundle of energy with a seemingly endless capacity for play. Ideally Arry will be adopted into a home with a doggy companion for him. He will make a loyal and intelligent family member. | Soft and Passive: Matilda Sex: Female Age(approx): 5 - 6 months Breed: Bearded Collie X ? Poodle Size: Medium - large when mature Description: Matilda is a lovely young pup who is very gentle and obliging for her age. She sits on command, is good on the lead and sat quietly in the car. Matilda is good with kids and is submissive to other dogs. This delightful young lady would make a wonderful addition to a family. As she lacks just a little confidence, she would love to be homed with a doggy friend or where she would have company. Listed: 8 November 2004 Rehomed: 21 November 2004 | Big teddy bear: Floyd Sex: Male Age: 6 months Breed: Labrador X Poodle Size: Large Description: Big cuddly Floyd is a dear fellow, loves everyone and cruises through life with a smile on his face and a wag in his tail. He is surprisingly calm, gentle and laid-back for such a big puppy and his behaviour indoors makes him no trouble to have around the house. Floyd is friendly to dogs and to cats and he already has some training, walking well on the lead and responding to the 'sit' command. He is intelligent and highly food-motivated so will be easy to obedience train - which is always a good idea with a big active dog. His short shaggy coat is soft and low-maintenance and he is the sort of dog who will need plenty of exercise to keep him happy and healthy. A home with a doggy playmate would be ideal for Floyd. Floyd has very big feet which indicates he will get a fair bit bigger before he stops growing. Listed: 10 November 2004 Rehomed: 13 November 2004 | ||

Only 6 years young, Bones still loves his walks but has lost most of the silliness of youth and is a bit quieter and gentler. Since coming into foster care he has gained a kilo and a half and a fair bit of energy!! He even occasionally risks losing his dignity to zoom around with Oscar. Bones loves people and will gently ask for attention by tapping you with his paw. Failing that he uses both paws, but is always quite gentle. He's already learnt to sit and wait until released before he eats and sits and drops on command. Bones is fully toilet trained and knows how to use a doggy door. He will fit in with a large variety of family situations, although would be best in a family without cats. He cant believe his luck! Scruff-muffin is a friendly, no-fuss sort of a dog. He is toilet trained, gentle and clean and has moderate exercise needs. He's not a barker, he loves people and gets on well with dogs of all sizes. Would make a great companion for an older person, but would be equally suited to a family with young children. Scruff-muffin is emotionally and physically healthy and he is an adaptable, quietly confident dog. He's intelligent, quick to learn and very responsive to commands. He loves to play with other dogs and is good with cats. He's been happy to be submissive to my own two dogs which makes him easy to have around. Ideally his new home would have a doggy playmate or a home where he wasn't left alone very long. Andy is a sensitive little man, he's obviously had an unhappy life before being saved from the pound so needs his people to understand his fears and handle him gently but firmly. He would be best suited to a home without children. Despite his unhappy past he's a friendly boy and greets all visitors with a huge enthusiastic welcome. He has many qualities which will make him a devoted and rewarding companion. Andy is housetrained and very well behaved indoors. He has a thick coat that isn't prone to matting and will only need a brush once a week and a trim periodically. Andy's new loving owner will be more than rewarded by the loyalty and devotion this little dog shows. While she loves playing with other dogs, her greatest love is people and she chooses to stick close to her human leader whenever she can. Ivy is a dog who will be very easy to train and will benefit from obedience lessons as well as regular exercise. She is also the sort of dog who would excel at competitive obedience or dog sports - she is a very clever, able little girl. Ivy is not the sort of dog you could leave alone in a yard all day - she will need dog or human company and plenty of activity to keep her mind occupied. He loves playing with other dogs or being involved in family activities, but is also able to amuse himself when company isn't available. He is an easy-going, sweet natured dog who is a pleasure to have around. Albert still has plenty of puppy enthusiasm in him so may currently be a bit too active for toddlers, although he shows signs of maturing into a calm and gentle adult dog. | Cute & Cuddly: Bentley Sex: Male Age (approx): 3 years Breed: Maltese Cross Size: Small Description: Bentley and Bundy came down from Sydney and have been together since they were puppies; Bentley is the Maltese and Bundy is the Chihuahua. As you can see from the pictures, Bentley and Bundy cannot be separated; they are like "2 peas in a pod" and seem to be joined at the hip. They are fine with kids and cats and I would like their ideal forever home to be with either a retired, semi retired couple or single person who would love them as they have so much love to give. They do need short walks, as Bundy needs to lose a bit of weight and Bentley will not be too far from him and will thrive on short walks as well. There is a risk that if I have them for too much longer I will end up adopting them myself as they are the nearest thing to the "perfect pair" and a real delight to have in my pack. | Ray of Sunshine: Oscar Sex: Male Age (approx): 1 year Breed: Crossbreed Size: Small (8kg) Description: Oscar is a great little guy! Always waggy and cheerful, with a big grin on his little face, he's a ray of sunshine round the house. Oscar is obedience trained and, more importantly, very obedient. He is active, has an excellent recall and stays pretty close so is safe to walk off-lead. He gets on well and is playful with dogs, goes to bed when he's told to, is house trained and can use a dog door, so will fit into a new household with minimum fuss. This pint-sized dynamo would make a great pet for kids. He is small and gentle enough that my 3 and 4 year old children are comfortable playing with him, but he is also robust and lively so would be ideal for older, more active children as well. He loves being involved in whatever is going on and can fetch a ball and play for hours. Oscar would be bored and lonely on his own all day, so would be happiest in a home where he had human or doggy company, and where he was exercised regularly. Listed: 19 July 2004 Rehomed: 21 December 2004 | Loyal and Sociable: Zega Sex: Male Age (approx): 9 months-old Breed: Pointer X Ridgeback Size: Medium-large Description: Zega is a very friendly, cute and responsive pup. He is house trained and is making progress on basic commands such as "sit" and "stay". He can shake hands pretty well and also knows the "outside" command when I don't want him to be inside the house. Some further obedience lessons would complete his training, and he is a smart dog so will learn quite quickly. Zega walks well on the lead with no pulling at all, and he follows me non-stop when off the lead, whether I am walking, jogging or bike-riding. He is also very well behaved in the car and is more than happy to sleep for several hours at a stretch when we go on long trips. Zega is quietly confident around other dogs and gets along very well with them. He absolutely loves children and is very affectionate. He will spend as long as you want sitting beside you if can spare him some pats. He will need a home with a good size backyard and someone who is willing to take him for regular walks. If you already have a dog that would be even better. Zega will also enjoy kids' company as much as they will enjoy his great personality. If you are prepared to give Zega some training and offer a firm and caring hand to guide him through his late puppy-hood, you and your family will have in return a life-long friend and a loveable pet. | Absolutely gorgeous: Milla Sex: Female Age (approx): 12 weeks Breed: Mastiff Cross Size:Currently medium (10kg), likely to be large Description: Milla is an adorable pup. As you would expect at her age she is a little bundle of energy who is into everything. A beautiful bouncy girl, Milla loves to lollop around the house and yard and is always eager to play with our two big dogs. Milla enjoys human company, loves a cuddle and is very keen to please. She also likes her chew toys and the opportunity to laze in the sun. Milla is an intelligent and inquisitive little girl who is just starting to find her feet in the word. As a young pup Milla would be benefit from a lot of attention, and quite a bit of supervision. Her toilet training is coming on very well and she already walks well on a lead. Already a bright pup, Milla has the potential to make fast progress with her training, although as a pup she only has a relatively short attention span at the moment. Milla already sleeps right through the night without making a peep and knows how to use a doggy door. While she is currently a fantastically easy-going little pup, Milla is likely to grow into a big girl who will need an owner who is committed to giving her a daily walk and a lot of love. Because of her size and exuberance, Milla would probably not be suitable for a family with young children. She would, however, be ideal for families with older kids or in a house where there was another dog. While Milla comes with all the joy and rewards that are associated with having a beautiful young puppy, potential purchasers need to be mindful that puppies can be a lot of work . He likes people, is gentle enough for small children, active and robust enough for older children. Harry would make a great family pet. He is a responsive boy; he comes when called and obeys a few basic commands. Harry is a calm and confident guy and also quite sociable. He is generally friendly towards strange dogs and playful with his doggy friends. We think Harry would be happiest in a home where he had human or canine company most of the time, and where he was allowed indoors to be part of the family. | Friendly and Affectionate: Hugo Sex: Male Age: approx 18 months Breed: Labrador X Golden Retriever Size: Medium-large Description: An absolutely beautiful big puppy, Hugo hasn't had much attention or care in his life prior to being rescued, but he has loads of potential, and is already shaping up well, after just a short time in foster care. He's an affectionate boy who tries to be friends with every dog or person he meets. His tail never stops wagging and he has a big goofy grin. He is energetic and playful, but he behaves sensibly and settles well indoors, being content to lie at your feet (or on the couch with his legs in the air). Hugo is wonderful pet material and will get even better with some more training. He learns extremely quickly: it literally took me no more than a minute to teach him to sit politely for a food reward and he has an excellent recall so can be safely exercised off-lead. He is great fun and loves playing 'fetch' in our dam. Hugo is a very special, amiable, adorable boy who deserves an excellent home, preferably with a doggy playmate. If you can give Hugo the care and attention he needs as he matures you will be rewarded with an outstanding dog who will be your loyal and gentle companion for the rest of his life. She's striking looking - beautiful in her own way, and certainly a 'head-turner'. She is a big strong girl and would benefit from some obedience training and regular exercise - though will likely become a more placid, 'couch potato' sort of dog as she ages.
