Dogs Adopted

The following ARF dogs were adopted during January and February 2005:

nellie

sophie

Great Personality: Nellie
Sex: Female
Age: approx 3 years
Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier x Fox Terrier
Size: small/medium
Description: With her nuggety, muscle-bound body, skinny tail like an aerial on her bottom, bowed legs, one ear up and one ear down, Nellie is never going to win a beauty contest. But she's definitely one of a kind in the looks department, and might just win "Miss Personality". She is of an age where she is stable and calm and won't chew up your slippers, but she's also active when appropriate, and loves a game, excelling at 'fetch', 'tug' and 'kill the chew-toy'. Nellie is a cheerful, waggy little lady who loves people and gets on well with most dogs. She has loads of love to give to her special person, she bonds hard and fast and will be a loyal and affectionate member of her adopted family. Nellie is quiet and very obedient, responding well to several commands, coming when called (even though she doesn't know her name yet) and having the kind of cooperative nature that will make further training a breeze. She doesn't demand much attention and is happy just hanging around her people, occasionally 'checking in' with a paw on your knee and a quick smile when you look down. Nellie's short coat and nice manners make her an ideal indoor dog. She is reliably house trained, clean and quiet and can be shut in the laundry overnight or when you go out, with no fuss and no mess till you let her out again. She really is a very easy little dog to manage and will fit into a wide range of homes. She would be a suitable pet for active children or for an inexperienced dog owner who just wants a gentle and devoted companion. Nellie loves a daily walk and is well behaved on or off lead. She enjoys doggy company but would also be content as the beloved only dog in a household.

Sweet and Gentle:Sophie
Sex: Female
Age: (approx) 5 months
Breed: Crossbreed
Size: Large
Description: Sophie has the most gentle nature. She is very loving and submissive. Sophie found the pound quite scary and is now building up her confidence in her new environment. She loves children and is okay with small children as she doesn't jump up or knock them over. She is just happy to be with people and will follow you around and sit at your feet. Sophie also gets on well with other dogs and cats. Sophie would suit a home where she is going to get lots of love and attention. She will need obedience training to ensure that she becomes the perfect companion and will require regular exercise.

Taz
sammy

Happy and Adoring: Taz
Sex: Male
Age (approx): 2 years
Breed: Staffy X
Size: Medium
Description:Taz is a very handsome, obedient fellow with big sad eyes whose main desire is to be with his owner. He walks very well on, and fabulously off, the lead and is a pleasure to take out. Although a fairly dominant dog, Taz is typically good with other dogs and with cats. He enjoys a game, is typically gentle and always unfazed by the rough and tumble of play. Taz knows some basic obedience and, as an intelligent people-oriented dog, will readily learn more. As he has a strong desire to be with people, Taz needs a family that will include him in lots of their activities. Taz also needs a secure yard, as his keenness to be with us had lead him to jump our (albeit rather low) fences in the past. When he does escape, however, Taz doesn't wander off. Instead he sits on the front door step waiting for us to come home, or if I'm in the front yard, he sits at my feet hopeful of a pat or a trip out in the car. Indeed, Taz loves the car. He readily jumps in and sits quietly until it's time to get out. If you are looking for a dog that will adore you and never be far from you, Taz would be ideal. Taz would also make an excellent work companion as he is happy to sit quietly and doesn't wander off. With sufficient human companionship Taz would be fine as a sole dog in a household.

Simply : Sammy (now Frankie)
Sex: Male
Age: (approx) 6 months
Breed:Yorkie x Maltese
Size: Tiny
Description: What can I say about Sammy? When I have a dog with such big ears, who cares what he is like when he looks like he does? Sammy is just the most gorgeous boy, cute as a button and has the personality to match. Although he is only 6 months old, Sammy is not a silly puppy; he loves to play, cuddle into your neck and just be around you. Sammy can use a doggie door and we are making progress with his house training, He also sleeps through the night and is not a barker, but will let you know when someone is at the door. It is imperative that Sammy goes to a home where he has another doggie companion, as he would not be happy being on his own if his 'mum' and 'dad' were away all day. If I have Sammy too much longer I run the risk of adopting him myself, so there must be someone out there who fits the bill with these minor requirements for the future happiness of this little man.

mika
baby

Cute and cuddly: Mika
Sex:
Female
Sex: 4 months (DOB 11 Sep 04)
Breed: Shih txu X Maltese
Size: small
Description: Mika is an absolutely adorable very gentle puppy. She is a little shy at first but once she knows you she loves to give you lots of kisses and cuddles and to follow you around and sit with you. Mika gets on well with other dogs (as long as they are not too boisterous) and cats. She has always been an inside dog and has not had a lot of outdoors experiences so would benefit from attending obedience classes to socialise more with other dogs and people. She has attended puppy school and can sit, drop and give her paw. Mika has a lovely fluffy coat which requires grooming everyday to keep it in excellent condition. Mika would suit a home where she is mainly indoors either with or without another doggy companion.

Sweet and Loving: BabyDoll
Sex: Female
Age (approx): 2.5 years
Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Size: Medium
Description: Ooohhhh, BabyDoll is just adorable and oh so gorgeous! A very sweet natured girl who loves to be a part of whatever you are doing. She enjoys her walks, laying on the floor at your feet or next to you on the lounge while you watch TV or going for a drive. Baby is a gentle girl who loves kids and cuddles. A clever girl too, she can sit and shake hands! One of her greatest loves is her balls and toys - she just loves to play fetch and brings the ball right back to you. BabyDoll is generally okay with other dogs, however would probably best homed with a easy-going desexed male for companionship or in a single dog home with lots of attention. Baby is also cat friendly. Being so white, with pink skin on her right ear and around her eyes, it is important that Baby be kept shaded from the sun as often as possible to prevent sunburn and skin cancer.

kelly

red

Clever and Affectionate: Kelly
Sex: Female
Age (approx): 18 weeks
Breed: Australian Cattle Dog
Size: Medium
Description: Kelly is a very special girl with a smoochy and calm temperament. A very fine example of her breed, she was bought from a breeder but then dumped at the pound when it was discovered she was deaf. It took several weeks for the discovery to be made, because this little girl is by no means disabled, she gets on just fine using her other senses. Kelly's deafness seems to have affected her in only minor ways - she is much less vocal than the average cattle dog, and she also sleeps extremely soundly! Apart from that you wouldn't guess there was anything different about her. Kelly is a very intelligent dog, a quick learner who is being taught to respond to hand signals. It took less than a day for her to master "sit", and we are currently working on a range of other commands. Further obedience training will be very beneficial to Kelly as a focus for her intelligence and activity levels - and to ensure she matures into a well-behaved and manageable pooch. Kelly has a very affectionate nature. She loves cuddling people and playing with dogs. We recommend that Kelly be adopted into a home with a doggy companion for her - a friend to act as her ears when necessary - to tell her their parents are home, when the fridge door has just been opened - that sort of thing. Her new family will also be instructed in how to communicate with Kelly using hand signals. Kelly will adapt well into a loving home environment and give her new owners many years of companionship.

He is very good with other dogs, walks well on and off the lead, he comes straight back when called and is very gentle natured. Red loves to be out and about and certainly loves his walks but for the rest of the day is happy to relax and lie down somewhere comfortable. Red would make a great companion and member of the family.

bianca
chloe

Quiet and gentle: Bianca
Sex: Female
Age: 3 years
Breed: Boxer x
Size: medium
Description: Similar in size and shape to a purebred boxer, Bianca lacks the high spiritedness of the breed, and is instead soft-natured, gentle and low-key. Bianca gets on fine with all sorts of dogs, deferring to them all and having no aggression in her. She would be perfectly happy as the only dog in a household, or as a companion to another passive dog. Bianca travels well in a car and she is a polite, mild-mannered dog who wouldn't dream of jumping on you or your visitors. Indeed she is reserved with strangers, taking a little while to gain the confidence needed to approach for a pat. Calm, quiet, with beautiful manners, Bianca is highly suitable as an indoor dog, content to lie quietly at the feet of her special person or just follow them around. She is house trained, and her short, sleek coat is clean and odour-free. Bianca is an undemanding dog who would be suitable for an inexperienced or first time dog owner was prepared to treat her gently. She is not the sort of dog who needs to let off steam, though she enjoys going for walks and doesn't pull on the lead.
Rescued: 2 January 2005
Adopted: 8 January 2005
Sweet and Adorable: Chloe
Sex: Female
Age: approx 18 months
Breed: Cross breed
Size: Medium
Description: Chloe is a gorgeous young lady who is looking for love. At 18 months old Chloe is beyond the ‘worst’ of the puppy phase but is still full of life and a lot of fun. Chloe is a playful dog who is well socialised and very submissive with other dogs. She is gentle and affectionate with people and is always keen for a cuddle. Her short-haired coat means that Chloe is a relatively low maintenance dog, though she will need a daily walk and plenty of doggy toys to keep her entertained. Chloe is housetrained and travels well in the car. She has some basic obedience and knows how to sit and drop and will come when called. As an intelligent and food-oriented dog she will learn quickly. Chloe’s dark chocolate colouring, white muzzle (which looks like she’s had her nose in a tub of ice-cream) and sleek body make her a very attractive dog. Chloe’s sociable and playful nature means that she would be ideally Adopted into a family with another dog. If you’re interested in Chloe, you’d better move fast as she is likely to be snapped up very quickly.

hussan
dougall

Clever and Loyal: Hussan
Sex: Male
Age: 16wks
Breed: German Shepherd X
Size: Will be large when mature
Description: Hussan is one of the friendliest pups I've ever had, he'll go up to anything, 2 legs or 4, to say hello and see what's going on. He loves to play games with other dogs as well as my shoes, or the mulch bin which he managed to get stuck on his head the other day. He is also one of the fittest pups I've had and so will need to go to an active home where he gets lots of exercise and has another dog to play with. An independent and clever character, he'll keep you on your toes and is bound to make you laugh. This beautiful boy will make a devoted companion or wonderful family pet.
Rescued: 1 November 2004
Adopted: 19 January 2005
Active and Intelligent: Dougall
Sex: Male
Age (approx): 6 months
Breed: Border Collie
Size: Medium
Description: Dougall is an absolute darling. He is a tri-colour so doesn't look like a classic black and white border collie. He is also less intense than the average border collie so would suit someone who wants all the great qualities of a BC but without the hype. He is a sensible boy with nice manners and sits for attention and food (although given half a chance he likes to put his paws on you and give you a kiss!). He loves people and cuddles and would suit a home where he was involved in family activities. He walks nicely on a lead and once he has a solid recall will love long off-lead walks and swims. Dougall has a steady temperament, is happy to amuse himself with squeaky toys or playing in his water-filled clam, and would most likely be very good with kids. He sleeps in a crate at night, knows how to use the doggy door and is house-trained. He is also good in the car. He gets on very well with his foster carer's 3 dogs and loves playing rough and tumble, and chasing games. A home with another doggy companion for him to play with would be ideal. He is a bright boy who learns quickly and is very food motivated. Being a Border Collie he will need an active home with lots of exercise and games, and someone who will undertake more formal training with him.

Size: Medium
Description:Bailey is such a sweet-natured ball of fun. A gorgeous boy who just adores his people and makes them feel extra-special. Bailey is very companionable and will wander around with you helping with your daily activities including gardening. My young nephew loves playing with him, treats him as one of the boys and enjoys having a play buddy. Bailey is a great dog for someone who needs both fun and close companionship. After a busy day of working around the house and garden, playing and going for walks, Bailey adores cuddling up next to you for a big, squashy hug while you watch TV. A friendly, happy dog whose favourite thing is just to be with his family.

Adorable puppy: Liam
Sex: Male
Age: approx 3 months
Breed: Kelpie
Size: Medium when adult
Description: Liam is a loving puppy, who thrives on attention and has quickly become a part of the family. He is a very intelligent dog, and has picked up some basic training and knows his name. He has bonded with our little cat, and responds well to other dogs. Now that he is in his teething stages, nothing satisfies him more than a bone, which entertains him for hours. Although he is very playful, Liam is not ball obsessed like some Kelpies, and is used to sleeping outside. Generally, Liam would be a great companion to anyone who would include him in the daily activities.

cisco
basil

The Complete Package: Cisco
Sex: Male
Age: (approx) 10 months
Breed:Long Hair Chihuahua
Size: Tiny
Description: Everything you could ask for is in one small tiny bundle. Cisco is intelligent, playful, affectionate, cuddly and housetrained. Wow, what a package for one so young. He's just adorable and loves to be with you wherever you are, never says no to hugs, snuggles and cuddles. Cisco has adapted very quickly into his foster mum's home and gets on well with her other dog. Cisco's lively puppy mind would get very bored if he was on his own so he needs to be with another small dog for company. Because he is so small, Cisco is not suitable for families with children under 6 yrs.

Name: Basil
Sex: Male
Age: approx 2 years
Breed: Jack Russell Terrier X
Size: Small
Description: Basil is an easygoing dog, who wants to be apart of the action. He loves an empty lap and watching TV. He is a gentle dog, who loves going for walks and is very well behaved on his lead. Obedience is one of his strengths, where he rarely steps out of line, and knows sit, stay, and never runs away once off his leash. When excited, he reverts to his high-pitched bark, yet generally, he is not a yapper. Basil would make a great dog for anyone who wants a loyal and charismatic companion.

Beautiful temperament: Max
Sex: Male
Age: approx 2 years
Breed: Labrador
Size: Large
Description: Max is such a beautiful dog, he loves people and is friendly and affectionate. He's large for a Labrador, and quite strong, so while he isn't willful or naughty, he will benefit from obedience training. Being such an intelligent and willing dog, Max will take to training like a natural. Max is well socialised, gets on well with dogs, and enjoys a good play. He would make a kind and relaxed companion for another dog. Max has lost the sight in one eye due to injury, but it doesn't slow him down or cause him any trouble.

Breed: Labrador
Size: Medium/large
Description: Henry is a friendly, energetic boy full of life! Henry has beginners' level obedience, is very quick to pick up new commands and is responding well to further training. He is an active dog who will need regular exercise and loves playing with water. Curious and intelligent, Henry enjoys exploring, and especially loves human company or playing with his dog mates. He is also good with cats, ducks and chickens. He is fully house trained and behaves himself extremely well indoors. Henry would best suit a home that includes him in family activities and allows him to hang around his people. He would be bored and lonely on his own all day, so would be happiest in a home where he has human or dog company. If you're after a friendly, affectionate mate and a very clever companion, Henry might be the perfect dog for you.

scoutastro

Everyone's Friend: Scout
Sex: Female
Age (approx): 7 months
Breed: Cross breed
Size: Medium
Description: What a lovely dog to have been abandoned at the pound. Scout hasn't had much attention, and no training prior to being rescued, but she is making up for lost time, displaying her keen intelligence, capacity for learning and a great temperament to top it off. Calm and friendly with people, Scout also enjoys wrestling and running playfully with her doggy companion. She is submissive but not timid, active, and while she loves dogs, she is disinterested in cats, so can co-habit safely with them. Generally a well-behaved pup, Scout doesn't bark much and is house trained for indoor living. We would like to see Scout adopted by someone who will take her to obedience training, and give her the guidance she needs to mature into an easily managed pet. She will require regular exercise and inclusion in her family's daily life. Scout would be unhappy left alone in a yard all day so we would also like her new home to have plenty of company (dog or human) for her.

Soft and Lovable: Astro

Age: (approx) 8 months
Breed: Shepherd/Labrador/Kelpie X

Astro is submissive to other dogs but enjoys a game with them; he is faithful to his humans and is a delight to have around. Being really just a pup, he still needs some guidance and a home where he would receive additional training so that he matures into the fabulous adult he can be. Astro is good in the car and appears to be housetrained. What a beautiful young man!!

ralph
bart

Soft natured: Ralph
Sex: Male
Age: (approx) 3 years
Breed: Airedale terrier x
Size: Medium large
Description: Ralph is a sweet natured gentleman who really just wants to be everyone’s friend. He doesnt have a mean bone in his body and gets on well with dogs of all sizes, ages and temperaments. With young children Ralph shows appropriate restraint and is unobtrusive and polite. Prior to being rescued, Ralph didn’t have much training of any sort but he is such an agreeable and cooperative dog that training him is proving to be an easy and rewarding business. He has a delightful habit of pricking his ears and tilting his head when I speak to him - I’m sure he is very intelligent. His wiry coat needs very little maintenance and he is generally a quiet and well-mannered boy - though he objects to being locked out when his people are indoors. Ralph is initially quite shy with strangers, (so no worries about him jumping on your guests) but with calm patient handling, his timidity is quickly replaced with gentle displays of affection and a friendly interest in whatever you’re doing. Ralph is a reasonably active dog and will enjoy a daily walk. Though he is not generally a barker or a terribly brave dog, Ralph can do a passable impression of a watchdog with the enormous WOOF! he saves for strangers. He will make an attentive, affectionate companion and a very endearing new pet for some lucky family.

ripleysonny

Big Softy: Ripley
Sex: Female
Age: 9 months
Breed: Bull Mastiff x
Size: Large
Description: A big gentle puppy, Ripley is a smoocher who is looking forward to getting her very own family. She gets on well with dogs though is a little intimidated by loud or aggressive ones - docility is more her style. She is not a barker and is generally a calm and well behaved girl. Ripley is housetrained, walks nicely on the lead and travels well in the car. Ripley is the kind of dog who will play as long as her family want but will be happy to settle down inside afterwards. Obedience training is advised for a dog this size, to help her mature into an easily managed pet, and Ripley already displays willingness and aptitude for training.

Size: Small
Description: Sonny is a very friendly quiet little chap. He loves nothing more than to lay at your feet or on your lap for cuddles. From the day he arrived at my home he immediately settled in to our home along with my other three little dogs. Look no further if you are looking for a loyal canine companion.

cola
kali

Gorgeous livewire: Cola
Sex: Female
Age: 4 months
Breed: Pointer/Kelpie X
Size: Likely to be medium to large
Description:Cola is an absolute sweetheart. Full of life and always ready for a game, Cola is an active little pup who is keen to please. She is a good-natured dog who gets on well with other dogs – albeit in that over-exuberant puppy way. Cola is more people, rather than dog, oriented and likes to stay close by you, inside the house and out. Cola is very responsive to food and, as she learnt very quickly to sit on command, is clearly readily trainable. She also travels well in the car and is just starting to learn how to walk on a lead. As a very young and energetic pup Cola needs a lot of attention and stimulation. Ideally her new home would have either a doggy companion or someone home most of the day – at least while she is in the puppy stage. Like all young puppies Cola has sharp baby teeth and is keen to chew, especially on human hands and feet, so would not be suitable for a family w ith very young children. Cola will mature into a lovely, loyal dog and naturally, anyone interested in her will need to understand that before she does grow up there will be a good 12 – 18 months of pretty intensive puppy playfulness and possibly naughtiness to be enjoyed.

Cuddly: Kali
Sex: Female
Age: (approx)3 years
Breed:Fox terrier x
Size:Small
Description: Kali is a lovely, easygoing, friendly girl who adores people, including children. She loves nothing more than being with you and getting lots of attention. She shares herself around our family, however she has taken well to my 11-year-old son, sitting with him when he is on the computer and if she gets the opportunity, will curl up on the bottom of his bed. She is a very obedient little dog who is house-trained and is no trouble inside. She loves to go for a walk or ride in the car, as soon as you pick up a lead or the car keys she gets very excited. Kali is good with cats and with other dogs. Kali would suit many home environments whether as an only dog or with another, with a family or a person on their own, an older family or a younger one.

His legs are completely better with hair covering all sights. He is a major sook when he doesn't get a walk at night and literally sulks in another room for awhile. He's terrific, best dog we ever had!"

jax
pirate

Gorgeous boy: Jax
Sex: Male
Age: (approx) 12 months
Breed: Crossbreed
Size: Medium
Description: Need a new best friend? Jax can be more than that. This young but sensible little boy has more love to give than he knows what to do with it. He is in heaven just being in the same room as you. Despite his age, Jax doesn’t seem to be a silly puppy. He likes to play, but is also very responsive to training and will do anything to please. He’s a real cuddler, and would make the perfect “first dog” for a family. He’d love to go to a home where he has a doggy playmate, or someone that spends a fair bit of time with him. He’s come out of his shell in a big way. What was once a little shy boy in the pound is now a big man in a little body with very loyal and loving nature. He loves car rides, is house trained, and is OK with cats. Want the perfect puppy? Jax is your man!

Pirate is also great with children and other dogs. Although not completely house trained yet, Pirate is very clean in the house and rarely makes a mess. As Pirate loves lots of attention, he would be best suited to a house where he would have lots of human attention or a doggy friend to keep him company. Pirate will benefit from attending obedience training as he grows up to assist him as he matures to become the ideal companion.
