ARF Information

Do you want to adopt an ARF dog?

The ARF adoption procedure includes the foster carer talking with you about your lifestyle and the sort of dog you are looking for, visiting your home to conduct a yard check, suggesting a trial period, and completing an adoption agreement if both parties wish to proceed.
See: ARF standard adoption agreement

It is important to realise that ARF is not a 'shop' where dogs are sold on a first come, first served basis. We consider ourselves more like a 'matchmaking' service where dogs are adopted into the most suitable 'forever' home available to meet the dog's (and the person's) characteristics and needs.

The final decision about which new home the dog goes to is determined by the foster carer based on their knowledge and understanding of the potential home and the personality of the individual dog. Sometimes it may take several enquiries before you meet an ARF dog that is right for you. Please consider this aspect of our rehoming procedure carefully before enquiring about a dog, because it may lead to disappointment if an adoption doesn't work out. The advantage of the procedure is that you get to find out a lot of information about the dogs and a chance to find the right match for you.

Our carers put a lot of love and effort into our foster dogs and finding their 'forever' homes, and occasionally people might disagree with our opinions or decisions. We are always happy to discuss and explain the reasons for our decisions, and perhaps suggest or keep an eye out for a more suitable dog for you.

If you do not wish to take part in our adoption procedure, there are more great dogs available at the Canberra Pound or Queanbeyan Pound

Please contact us if you would like any further information.
