Italian Greyhounds are not your average dog, they are very fragile and tend to be a bit flighty and are very needy, by the same token they are very loving and cuddly and make great family dogs. Due to their fragility they are unsuitable for homes with young children or rough or larger dogs. They, also do best with a constant companion so will be rehomed where they have another suitable doggy companion.
Holly is the sweetest natured little Chihuahua you can get. She came into ARF care at Christmas time following a car accident where she had two factured femurs and a dislocated pelvis. Her pelvis was realigned and she had pins in both her hind legs which have now been removed. She is good as new. She has had 3 operations, stitches, casts etc and not once has she shown any signs of growling or snapping, she is very tolerant and just loves her people sooo much.

Holly is looking for a home where she will be loved and included in all the day to day happenings. Her favourite place is inside and she is well housetrained. When she sleeps she likes to cover herself over with her blanket (very cute) Holly is good with other dogs and cats. She is easy to do anything with, bath, travel in the car, crate etc, a real gem. She has an easy care coat and has low exercise requirements.

Came into care from DAS on 9 January (DAS pound pic)

Emma-Lee came into ARF from DAS in early January. She is a delightful girl who started out as frightened and unsure but desperate for love. She was scared of the other dogs and unsure of humans. It wasn’t long until she started to come out of her shell. Sadly, it looks like she hasn’t had much love for a long time. She is suffering from Demodectic mange and as she has a secondary bacterial skin infection, she smells something like a mouse. She has quickly settled in to home and is really enjoying have a cuddle. Each Monday she goes to the vet for a check-up and an ivermectin injection.

Each week she is bathed in a gentle shampoo. She has been improving every week, though we had a set-back a couple of weeks in when she had a reaction to the conditioner that we were using on her skin. Last week she was given the all-clear for the demodectic mites, so it looks like we have that under control. Now we just need to get her skin back to a healthy, furred normal look. It will take a while as she has been so long without care.

The hair on her head and legs is getting thicker and the hair on her body is getting longer. Now we just need more hair to come through on her body. The vet advised that it will take a bit for the hair follicles to regenerate themselves. Emma-Lee (pronounced Emily) is named after the vet nurse who cared for her when she first came into care.

Week 1 - looking soooo much better, poor little thing though as when she gets her injections it makes her skin bleed due to its poor condition. She was booked in ASAP for desexing as this can set off the mange. It was thought that she had an enlarged uterus and it was unsure if she could potentially be heading for an infection/pyometra.

Week 2 - a little more hair and it is getting longer. Set back... during this week Emma-Lee had a reaction to the conditioner we were using on her skin. Poor little thing, her skin was on fire and she scratched a couple of spots until she bled.

Week 3 - after the set back last week, her skin is recovering but we lost some of the hair growth. She had a skin scraping this week which came back negative - yipee! Now to get the hair back.

Week 4 - ivermectin injection and check up - vet is happy with her.

Week 5 - Well, the miracle hasn't quite happened just yet

She just came back from her visit and has been given a 2 week antiobiotic injection and her second last ivermectin injection. She hates the needles but only gently rolls on her side and tries to roll onto her back to let you know it hurts. A very sweet girl.

She is house trained and happily trots off to her bed when it’s time for everyone to go to sleep. Carly plays nicely with my two year old cattle dog but is polite around our older boy. More about Carly once we get to know her better.
