Chloe (formerly Clarissa)

Clarissa (as she was known while with ARF) was found by an ARF foster carer in a Sydney pound. Her long fur was completely matted to the skin and filled with dirt and her own faeces.Clarissa
ClarissaClarissa Because she was so filthy and matted, she needed to be shaved to the skin as soon as she arrived into care
She looked quite unusual after her severe haircut, so her foster carer decided that a bold, uncompromising name was called for - hence she became 'Clarissa'. After putting on some much needed weight, and overcoming the skin infections she had as a result of being so matted and dirty, she was put up for adoption.Clarissa

Update

After only few weeks with ARF, Clarissa found a wonderful new home (and was renamed 'Chloe'. Chloe 'wrote' her foster carer a letter after a few months to let her know how she was going:

Chloe

Hello my name is Chloe and I was rescued from a Sydney pound by ARF.

I had been wondering the streets and was in a terrible condition. I had to have my entire coat shaved off and given a good bath. I am a Shi Tzu x Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

My new mum saw my photo on the ARF website and really wanted to meet me. The meeting went well and I have been with my new adopted family in Queanbeyan for a few months. I now have a mum and dad, grandfather and a Collie named Skye that I love to play with. I am very happy now that I have settled into my new home.

I don’t have to worry about scavenging for food but I’m not happy about sharing meals with Skye although toys are OK. My coat has grown at least two inches and I think I look gorgeous, especially now that I have put on a little weight so that I’m just right. My mum had to provide me with behavioural training in the beginning. I think it was because I have been a bit naughty. So far I have chewed a few books and magazines (much better than reading them) and some shoes. My greatest achievement was to chew the arm of a cane lounge. I also showed Skye how much fun this could be. It was a good job my mum wanted to change it anyway but I don’t think she was especially pleased. So I won’t do that again. I’m a quick learner and now very well behaved.

I really like my new Vet although I hate needles and I’m not going to open my mouth to have my teeth checked no matter how many treats they offer me.

I’m glad that my foster mum from ARF was able to save me. I really love my new home and I know my new family loves me. I even have my own sheepskin rug to sleep on. Now that Spring is nearly here I’m looking forward to lots of walks and car trips with my new family and Collie friend Skye.
Love from
Chloe

What a difference time and TLC make!
