Marshall (affectionately known as Marshmallow)

written by Sharyn, his new owner, in July 2007

At about 5 months old, Marshall was found wandering the bush with his brothers. Lost or dumped, they were starving, sick and very scared. All of the pups were rescued from the pound by ARF and Marshall found his way into the home of his wonderful foster carer Beverley.

She gently introduced him to her family, and encouraged him indoors, a warm and comfortable place obviously unfamiliar to him. While Beverley patiently nursed him back to health, his condition and weight improved rapidly, but he still preferred to spend time by himself outside - hunting bullants for food.

Meanwhile, I had been searching high and low for a companion for my 4 year old Akita X "Eddie". Nicknamed "Marshmallow" on the ARF site, Marshall caught my attention and I quickly arranged to meet him. He hit it off with me and Eddie right away. The following weekend, Beverley brought him to my home and he moved right in with us. After a week or so, he stopped looking for bullants, and spent more and more time inside with the family. After a while, he started seeking out our company, and true to his nickname, even started becoming soft and snuggly.

Marshall soon graduated from puppy school and I began to take him to obedience classes with many other ARF dogs, where he was even reunited with one of his brothers! We're up to the third level now and he loves to practise his tricks. Every morning he runs beside me on my bike, and he relishes his evening walks with Eddie and me. We find him crashed out every night after dinner on his beanbag. Eddie seems to enjoy bossing him around, but often during the day they can be found cuddled up together in the sun relaxing after a strenuous game of tug-o-war.

Marshall's puppy antics have re-energised the whole house, and he is making a wonderful companion for both me and Eddie. Far from the sad little pup we first met, Marshall now has a secure home, is well fed, healthy and increasingly confident.

Thanks to ARF and Beverley for all their magnificent work.
