ARF Dogs available for adoption

ARF dogs are in temporary foster care and seeking suitable permanent loving homes. ARF dogs are microchipped, desexed, C5 vaccinated, on heartworm prevention, wormed, and health-checked. To help cover these costs, ARF asks for an adoption fee contribution of $253 (incl GST) per dog (or $110 (incl GST) for dogs over 8 years old) plus any donations people may wish to make. For more information on why ARF charges a rescue contribution, what the benefits are, and what our actual costs are, please choose from the following topics:

Brutus

Brutus and Dave
A steadfast companion:Brutus
Sex:Male
Age: 7 years
Breed: Cross breed
Size: Large
Description: Brutus was left at Queanbeyan pound with a note saying "Please find Brutus a good home". Well, we'll certainly do our utmost because Brutus is a wonderful dog who wants nothing more and nothing less than a loving new owner to devote himself to.

Brutus has fitted in beautifully with our own three dogs of diverse age and size - in particularly, he is utterly smitten with our 11 week old lab pup - and interacts equally well with our neighbourhood dog walking group. (However, his new home would best be one without chooks, cats or rabbits.) Calm and gentle with people, Brutus is happy to romp with our boisterous adolescent dog. However, his first love is people, and he would do just fine as an only dog as long as there was someone home most of the time.

Brutus is gentle, affectionate and responsive, and likes to snuggle up for pats and cuddles. In fact, after only a short time with us, he's become known as "sweet-pea" (but don't tell anyone as it will only embarrass him). To be happy, Brutus will need to go to a home where he is able to be inside and become an integral part of the family unit.

Brutus' short coat is attractively marked and very low maintenance. He has moderate exercise needs, impeccable manners in the house, travels well in the car, and walks well on lead. In short, Brutus is a dog of great stature, the sweetest of temperaments, and is blessed with rugged good looks. What more could you want?

Brutus is microchipped, desexed, C5 vaccinated, wormed, and available for $253 (incl GST).

Reagan
Affable and adorable: Reagan
Age: about 18 months
Breed: Scruffy Crossbreed (including Wolfhound genes)
Size:Large
Sex: Female
Description: Our beautiful and very popular Reagan has just celebrated one year in foster care. We tried to get some photos of her celebrating – but she got embarrassed at all the attention and then refused to get dressed up in a party hat and a garland etc – so sorry no party snaps!

Now don’t for one moment think that Reagan has been in foster care for so long because there is something wrong with her! Reagan has actually been inundated with people wanting to offer her a forever home but I have yet to find what I consider to be the perfect forever home for her.

Reaggie has a few particular requirements – nothing insurmountable -- but so far no single enquiry has had all the things I would wish for my very, very special foster girl.

1. Reagan needs high and secure fencing – she doesn’t need a fortress, but 6 ft colorbond fences and also 6ft high gates are a must. Reagan is deaf and I want to make sure she is totally safe in her backyard. She is by no means an escaper but she is inquisitive and if she spots her family (on the other side of a lowish fence) then she may try to get to them.

2. Reagan must have another dog for company -- one who will also be her ears for her. She is still a youngster with a penchant for the odd bit of rough and tumble play interspersed with the occasional nap in a sunny spot, or a frolic in a water-filled clam shell and of course lots of inside time with her family! Reagan is friendly and can be a bit boisterous so a friendly med-large dog who is also looking for a playmate might suit her best.

3. Because Reagan is deaf she must go to a home that recognises how important it is that she is never allowed off lead outside the safety of her back yard. Being deaf means she may not be able to be alerted to impending danger when she is off-lead.

4. Ideally Reagan needs a home where all members of the family are prepared to learn sign language in order to communicate with her. Reagan is very smart, very food motivated and very responsive – she has been an excellent pupil during her time in foster care. She reads lips, hand signals and body language really well and has quite a repertoire of tricks. (Because of her lack of hearing she also has an especially well developed sense of sight and smell – nothing much escapes her keen attention!)

While Reagan lives in a world of silence this does not stop her enjoying life to the full. She is a great dog to take out and about as she is calm and friendly to all she meets. For her size she is also incredibly cuddly. She loves to lean up against you or snuggle into you on the couch. This way she knows if you try to sneak away as she can sense you moving! (I did mention she was smart!) She is not a fussy eater, is house trained and responds extremely well to direction from her Foster Mum – and the water squirter!

Reagan is a very special young girl who requires a special forever home.  She said to tell any prospective adopters not to be concerned about her – she’ll have you all trained in no time!

Reagan is microchipped, desexed, C5 vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and available for $253 (incl GST).

Shelby

Shelby
shelby
Easy-Going: Shelby
Sex: Female
Age: 4-6 years
Breed: Ridgeback X
Size: Large
Description: What a beautiful girl! Shelby is an affectionate and smoochy girl who makes the most of peoples love and pats. She is obedient and comes when called and can sit on command. She is the type of girl that although she is large, her good behaviour makes her easy to have inside. Shelby is friendly to other dogs both big and small.

Shelby has only a moderate activity level - a leisurely walk followed by a good lean on you for a pat and cuddle. What else could you want in a big dog? To tell you the truth, it's hard to imagine why she wasn't collected from the pound. She has obviously been "well loved" and needed a personal fitness program to shed a few kilos and she will make a wonderful companion to her new family. Shelby is best suited to a home with secure fencing.

Shelby is microchipped, desexed, C5 vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention and available for $253 (incl GST).
